Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday, Advent three, we lit the candle of joy.
We gave thanks to God for the birthday of Pauline and Dick Wood, prayed and sang "Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice." May the Lord who has brought us this far, fill us with joy in spite the challenges we face.
The Rev. Gail Avery, Canon for Transition and Community Engagement was our preacher. She reminded us that as we come to the end of our mutual ministry we should remember, celebrate, forgive each other and let go. This helps us move on and adapt to change.
The service on Sunday, December 30 will include a Liturgy of Leave-Taking in Thanksgiving for our Mutual Ministry. At the end of that service my priestly, pastoral and administraive functions end. In case of pastoral needs, call the senior Warden, Kathleen White, who is Canonically in charrge until the Interim Priest arrives.
If we ever meet in the community, your feelings about the past, present and future of St. James, are not to be discussed. Keeping boundaries is important in ending our mutual ministry and opening ourselves to new things that God is doing. I will continue to pray for you in my private prayers.
This is the last Power Of Story Telling. (POST)
We told our story before the service until Jim called us to attention.
We told our story during the peace when we listened, held hands and prayed.
We told our story during the coffee hour and other occasions.
We told our story through emails, telephone calls and the many activities in the community.
We told our stories before the retirement dinner, December 9.
Your stories helped me pray and appreciate your faith in God and commitment to serving others.
Thank you.
Plans for the rest of the rest of December:
Sunday, Advent 4, Mark Wright is our preacher.
Christmas Eve, 5 pm. Traditional carols and The Amazing Story of the birth of Jesus, in a language that children can understand. Bring grand children.
The 1st Sunday after Christmas, December 30, will be our last day to worship together.
May God with us who has helped St. James survive challenges in the past, open our hearts to greater and better things to come.
We are His people, called to His mission and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
A blessed Christmas and New Year.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday morning the congregation shared personal understanding of faith and how that helped them in the last 8 years and thanked God for the birthdays for Owen Marks, 12/09; Joshua Brunell, 12/11.
The senior Warden announced the names of the supply and interim clergy from 01/01/2019 More details to come. Services and pastoral care will continue as usual.
The retirement slide presentation and personal comments from people brought back many happy memories of our journey from 876 N Main Street to 2238 Parade Road and gratitude to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for shared space, growing relationships and working together on the campus and in the community.
Thank you to the organizers, speakers and all who attended. You made it a memorable day for Rose and I.
Thank you to Ginger Wells-Kay for the article in the Laconia Daily Sun.
Here are the plans for the rest of December:
Sunday, December 16, preacher is The Rev. Gail Avery, Canon for Transition and Community Engagement.
Sunday, December 23, the preacher is Mr Mark Wright
Christmas Eve Service, Monday, December 24 at 5 pm
Sunday, December 30, A Liturgy of Leave Taking in Thanksgiving for our Mutual Ministry.
December 18 will be the last POST, weekly update from me. Thank you to all who used it as source of information and reading Sunday lessons for meditations of the week.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations for the week.
What gives you joy in Advent and if you were to give it a color what would it be and why?
How are you making the Advent of Christ known to people?
What does "Rejoice in the Lord always," mean for you in your current circumstances?
It has been said, "all who give to others also receive from them," who or what gave you the greatest joy this year?
“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” — Maya Angelou;
Rose and I cherish memories of giving and receiving in the last eight years.
May the joy of the Lord's presence be your daily strength as you face life's challenges.

We also gave thanks to God for the birthday for Brenda Moulton, 12/9; and anniversary for Bob and Carol Huber, 12/2; Gloria Gallant and Wilbur Bickford, 12/3. Pray for peace and grace for you all.
On Wednesday, December 5, GSLC will have "Holden Evening Prayer" at 6 pm for soup and bread. Invite family and friends.

Retirement dinner is on Sunday, 12/9 at 3pm.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations for the week.
What is helping you slow down and be quiet this Advent?
How is God setting you free in the challenges you currently face? Luke 1:68-79
How are you "sharing in the gospel," this Advent? 2nd lesson
In the confession we pray for forgiveness of sins and repentance, how is this working out in your walk with God?
Lord, increase our faith as we deal with the disasters, injustices and deceptions in the world.
Through the risen Christ, who became one of us and understands what it means to be human.

Good morning St. James family. Trust you are warm, safe and enjoyed family, friends and food on thanksgiving day.
On Sunday we found hope in the last words said by king David from his death bed and the congregation shared lessons learned from the last eight years of our ministry together. Our hope and trust in what God can do in through us as we hold each other's hand helps us face the future with courage.
We also gave thanks to God for Bill Baxter's birthday, December 1 and anniversaries for Janet and Warren Mitchell, Carrie and Jeff Pearson, Jennifer and Ben Pearson and Brooke and Mike Flathers, November 26. May you all be blessed with good health.
Good Shepherd have an Advent Mid-week services on Wednesdays, December 5th, 12th, and 19th at 6 pm. SJEC parishioners are invited. Contact the GSLC office if you need more information.
Please continue to pray for Bob and Tracy, John and Nancy and many in our parish who need healing and strength. RJ's tests are ok and he is grateful for your prayers.
I have attached the Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. Pick on a word, thought, image or a summary statement on which you can hang your meditations of the week.
Who is the righteous Branch and what difference is that making when you feel threatened by forces that are greater than you? (1st lesson)
In what ways has the Lord "directed your way" in the past week? (2nd lesson)
What signs and words create fear in you, in these days, and what gives you hope? (gospel)
On Sunday, we start Advent. Forward Movement has a calendar with one thing you can do per day until December 23 to help you slow down, unplug and reconnect with God through Christ. Copies are being mailed from church or you can pick up a copy on Sunday.
Lord, in the midst of deception, disease and disasters, may Advent remind us of your presence and help in them.
Through Christ, who is with us, in this life and the next.

Good day St. James family and trust you are keeping warm and safe.
On Sunday we prayed for people who died, homes destroyed, leaving many homeless, the firefighters and first responders and the needed support for survivors in parts of Carlifornia. We also prayed for people elected to represent us in the governance of our country and states.
Our preacher was Mr. Benge Ambrogi, COO/ Canon for Mission Resources. Parishioners had an opportunity of talking to him during coffee.
The Vestry met last night and spent sometime discussing vestry/clergy exit interview on past, present and things to remember in the transition. The questions will be handed out on Sunday as it is necessary to involve every parishioner. My prayer is the family bonds that kept us together during difficult times will continue, even though they will always be differences of opinion, just like any family.
I have attached the Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. There are so many ideas in each lesson and I love picking on something that applies to my life and inwardly digest it for the week. Here are questions that may help you find one thing you need to meditate on this week about yourself.
When king David was dying, he had regrets and hopes about his life, if you were to write an epitaph for your gravestone, what would you write and why?
What makes Jesus a unique king, in the second lesson and what are you doing about it?
Given the interpretation of the bible and the constitution in our times, what is truth and what makes the person and work of Jesus credible?
Happy Thanksgiving. Remember and pray for many in our community who have no home nor family and thank you to all who gave generously to the thanksgiving baskets shared with GSLC.
Lord, Christ the King Sunday challenges us to choose between kings who aquire and manintain power by force and hatred of the other, and Jesus who gave up his rights so that all who believe and follow him may have everlasting life.
Through Christ, the First and the Last, whose saving grace is free for anyone who needs it.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday we mentioned the names of men and women in our parish and families who died, all who supported them in defending our country and observed a moment of silence and prayer in their memory. Pray that the death and suffering of our armed forces and their families are not in vain.
We also gave thanks to God for Wilbur Bickford's birthday, November 14th.
St. James is serving dinner on Wednesday, November 14 at Hands Across The Table, St. Andre Bessette. Contact Sheila Akerstrom if you can help.
Lunch Bunch is on Friday, November 16 at Giuseppe's, Meredith. Contact Bill Hammond if you need more information.
The retirement dinner is on December 9 at 3 pm
I have attached Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What helps you manage when everything seems against you? (1st lesson)
What has Christ done, second lesson, that helps us pray with confidence 2,018 years later?
What are "the large stones and large buildings" in your life that make you feel safe, and how will you feel if they are destroyed?
On Sunday, November 18, Mr Benge Ambrogi, COO/Canon for Mission Resources will be our preacher. Mr Ambrogi has worked with small parishes for many years and will help us understand what "Revitalizing the Church," mean and our roll in it.
Please bring fruit and desserts, cookies, etc for the 20 Thanksgiving boxes being prepared by GSLC and SJEC this Sunday for those in need. Contact Ginger for more information.
Lord, may the natural disasters, violence and incurable diseases that kill many people in our country and the world remind us of the fragility of life and appreciate what Christ has achieved for us by his death and resurrection.
Through Christ, our hope and anchor through the changing scenes of life.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday we celebrated All Saints by lighting candles for loved ones who died and read the names of 34 parishioners who died, 2011 thru 2018 and a bell was rung after each name. Thank you to all who helped make that part of the service work well.
We also gave thanks to God for Carol Johnson's birthday, 10th; and anniversary for Bob and Tracy Dassatti, 5th. Pray for healing of mind, body and spirit for them.
The Convention held at Christ Church, Exeter, NH, on Satruday went well and you will be hearing more in the new year.
I have attached the Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditation for the week.
What does the story of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz teach us about caring for others? (Ruth said, " I will go with you", Boaz said, "I will do all you ask," Naomi said, "I need to seek some security for you,")
The Presiding Bishop is inviting parishioners to join the "Jesus Movement," what reasons does the second lesson give for doing that?
When did you give all you had, what happened and how did you feel?
Last week I visited Priscilla, Bristol; Cynthia and John, Franklin; Cathy and Sue, St. Francis; Connie and Jim, Taylor Home and all sent their regards to the St. James family. Nancy would appreciate a ride to visit John, any day of the week. Any ideas on what we can do for them for Christmas? Time with them may be more appreciated than a gift!
Lord, may the Sunday lessons remind us of our duty and obligation to you and to our neighbor.
Through Christ who gave up his divine entitlements to save the world that God loves.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday, we welcomed Ethel, a Taylor Home resident and former St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New London, who was accompanied by her son Rick. We are grateful to Sally for bringing Bill Baxter to church and our preacher was Tina Pickering, Canon for Ministry Development.
After the reading of the gospel Tina read out what the Bishop wrote about the 11 people killed in a Jewish Synagogue in Pitsburg, PA and observed a time of silence. May we see God's image and likeness in everyone, even those we disagree with.
We also gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Leanne Brunelle, Kate Schwartzer, 28th and Karin Salome, 29th. May God who has brought you this far bless you in the coming year.
St. James in door yard sale is on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 9 am- 2 pm. Yard sale items accepted at church, 2238 Parade Road, Laconia on Oct.31, Nov.1 and Nov.2 (Wed-Fri), 9 am-1 pm or call 455-2745 for an alternate time or possible pick up.
The Diocese Convention will be held on Saturday, November 3, at Christ Church Episcopal, Exeter, NH. Pray for our three delegates and I as we travel and attend to the business of the day. The agenda is on the Renewing of the Faithful, Revitalization of the Church, and Reconciliation of the World.
All Saints is on Thursday but will celebrate it on Sunday, November 4. There will be an opportunity to light a candle in memory of a loved one who died. The Eucharist reminds us we celebrate the risen life of Christ, our hope in a world of hatred and death.
I have attached Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
In the first lesson, are there similarities or differences between the Judean migrants moving to Moab, an enemy of Judah, for food and safety and the migrant caravan coming to our southern border with Mexico?
In the second lesson, is there a difference between what we do to be right with God and what he has done for us in Christ?
In the gospel, what does it mean, "to love one's neighbor as oneself," given differences of opinion on many issues in our country?
Lord, use this week's lessons to shine at the core of our being as individuals and as a nation to do and be what honors your name and gives hope to our neighbor.
May the Holy Spirit, break, melt, mold and fill us in times like these.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday we witnessed the baptism of Lucas James, the son of Kay Pearson and renewed our baptismal vows.
My summary statement on the lessons for Sunday was, "Listening to news on what is going on in our community, country and the world, changes my idealistic and realistic views of life, to seeing God in it."
The Senior Warden, Kathleen Duren-White read my resignation letter with effect from December 31, 2018. Between now and then I request we do the following things in preparation of our separation and starting new relationships in 2019 as the parish looks for a new pastor and Rose and I for a new church in which to worship.
1 Pray, talk and let go of my role as Rector of St. James, Laconia
2 Pray, forgive and be freed to start a new chapter with no unresolved issues from my tenure.
3 Celebrate the ending of ministry on December 30.
Unless we forgive and accept differences as strength, we get stuck in the mud and unable to start the next chapter of our lives.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditation.
What is your take away from the story of Job that will help you on your life journey with many unknowns?
Given what is going on in the church, local, international politics and economics, how does the second lesson give you hope?
In what ways are you helping or discouraging others from having their eyes opened to see and empowered to help themselves?
Tina Pickering, Canon for Ministry Development, in the Episcopal Diocese of NH will preach on Sunday and share Diocesan plans for RENEWING THE FAITHFUL, REVITALIZATION OF THE CHURCH and RECONCILIATION OF THE WORLD as spelt out in Bishop Robert's 2019 Proposed Budget Narrative.
Please make time to help complete the Mosaic project on the table between the two fellowship halls. Sharon Dunham will be there to help you put in one or two pieces during the coffee hour.
Fill in and return to the office your pledge forms so that the Vestry can prepare and approve the 2019 budget before the January Annual Meeting.
Lord open our eyes that we may see what you are doing and empower us to work with you in our world of pain and suffering.
Through Christ who became one of us, suffered, died and rose again and our hope in life challenges.
Peace and grace in Christ Jesus.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday we welcomed two visitors and gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Ginger Wells-Kay, 7th and Jennifer Mitchell, 9th. You both are a gift to us and to the wider community, be blessed with good health and continue the good work you feel called to do and be.
The sermon and the conversation during coffee was on "suffering and differences of opinion brings out the moralism and hedonism in me." Moralist often become the worst hedonist and hedonists the worst moralists.
Thank you to all who helped make the Mosaic "Pentecost" on Sunday. The more people the better.
I have attached the Lectionary and the lessons Jim has chosen for the Pledge Campaign on Sunday.
Here are questions on the Lectionary lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What helps you balance "complaints and acceptance," in your life? (1st lesson)
How is God's word helping you deal with moralism and hedonism in your life? (2nd lesson)
In what ways does the request of the man affect your understanding of good works and grace? (gospel)
On Sunday, Jim Presher will launch the Pledge Campaign. The Vestry budgetted a large deficit for 2018 and are currently better than expected. Thank you to all who give so generously and sacrificially because you trust God to supply your daily needs.
There will be no POST next week as I have Vestry meeting on Monday night and clergy retreat on day on Tuesday. Sunday lessons will be sent to you if and when I am able.
There will be a baptism on October 21 for Lucas Pearson. Pray for Kay the mother, Jennifer and Ben Pearson, the God parents as they take this step of faith on his behalf.
Please give generously to UTO, United Thank Offering and ChIPs, Children of Incarcerated Parents, that our parish delegates take to the Convention on November 3, in Exter.
Lord, in our politically polarized culture, use the moralism and hedonism of Job and his friends to break, mould and shape us into the people you want us to be and for your glory.
Through Jesus Christ who fulfilled your will, won for us everlasting life by his resurrection, in spite all that moralist and hedonists did to frustrate God's plan of salvation for the world.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday morning the cogregation reminisced on the life of John Dickinson and the role he played for many years at St. James, followed by prayer for Joy and the family.
We gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Carrie Pearson, 3rd and Carol Huber, 4th. May the Lord bless you all with good health.
The Lakes Region Convocation is on tonight at Christ Church, N. Conway. Gloria Gallant will present the Diocese Budget, 2019. Pray for travel safety for out delegates.
The blessing of animals is on Thursday, October 4 at 6 pm at church.
Please contact Sharon Dunham for information on the making of the Mosaic on Sundays at 1 pm at church.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What has suffering revealed about your relationship with God and other people?
If God speaks in various ways, how does the Eucharist give you hope in suffering?
What is "lawful or unlawful," in our culture and in what ways is this affecting you?
May suffering draw us closer to God, our helper, and neighbor who responds when we call for help.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday we prayed for Bob Kay, traveling to Norfolk VA, where his brother Bill died on Saturday afternoon. May Bill rest in peace, Bob have the strength to do what needs to be done and cherish happy memories.
We also gave thanks to God for the anniversary for Gary and Leanne Brunelle (25th). The Lord bless and make you a blessing to each other and all around you.
John Boschetti had surgery at LRGH, please keep him in your prayers. Thank you to all who have visited and helping Nancy with transport. Please call her if you can help.
Its time for UTO (United Thank Offering) used to support local and international needs by the Episcopal Development Fund and ChIPS, (Children of Incarcarated Persons Support) which our delegates take to the Convention on November 3. If anyone has ideas on fundraising for these projects in October, let Vestry members know.
I have attached Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. If you can I recommend you read the whole of Esther 7 on how she saved Jews from being killed by Haman, King Ahasuerus most trusted adviser.
Haman's evil intentions became his destruction, has this ever happened to you or anyone you know?
Where have you seen suffering in our community and what can you do to help?
Sum up what Jesus said in your own words and how can you put that into practice?
Please remember to register for Music That Make Community workshop, September 28-29 and blessing of animals October 4.
Fall is here. Enjoy the change of colors on leaves. Adjust to change of weather.
Esther, Elijah and Jesus made a difference when the odds were against them because they trusted God for help and we can do the same.
Grace and peace.

Good day St.James Family,
The take away from James Epistle on Sunday, for me, was:
We all have festering wounds caused by someone, intentionally or unintentionally.
We all have caused festering wounds on someone, knowingly or unknowingly.
We gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Liz Schwartzer (17th) and Nancy LeRoy (22nd). May you continue to be a blessing to all around you.
The Vestry met last night and the worship team is working closely with Jim to train people to run the AV on Sunday. Contact Mark or Jim if you are interested. The pastoral team are attending a seminar run by the Diocese on dementia, if interested please contact Linda for details.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What gives you confidence that what you do is from the Lord and for his glory? (1st lesson)
Who exhibits "a harvest of righteousness," at St. James, and how can you let that person know? (2nd lesson)
What makes you the greatest, in spite of all the bad things you have/may experience in this life? (gospel)
Just a quick reminder that outdoor church garden cleanup will take place this coming Sat, Sept 22, 9am-12pm, along with the indoor church cleanup. Your presence will help make our church garden look great. Contact Ginger if you need more information.
I have attached information on Intergenerational Community Sing run by Good Shepherd. Please register as soon as you can if you plan to attend. I highly recommend it.
There will be a "Blessing of the Animals" service on Thursday, October 4th at 6pm- the actual date of the Feast of St. Francis. Please bring your animal.
One of the advantages of being a family size congregation is knowing each other. The Vestry recommends that we continue to look out for each other by sending a card, calling or supporting in whatever way we can. Being each others keeper is what makes St. James a family.
Christ came to save us so that we may serve others for his glory.

Good morning St. James family,
The challenge in last Sunday lessons, at least, for me is "what traditions has St. James set up in the last eight years that may make it difficult to transition to new leadership next year?"
In the service we gave thanks to God for the anniversaries for Ronald and Eleesa Sibley, and Rita and Jerry Krupp's 60th all on 9/6. Pray you all enjoy good health in the coming year.
The Lake's Region Convocation meeting is on tonight at All Saints, Wolfeboro. Pray for safe travel for our delegates.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What are you currently afraid of and how does the first lesson help you trust God?
When did you feel discriminated or disadvantaged and what helped you manage? (2nd lesson)
What happened recently that helped you see, hear and speak in ways you never imagined? (gospel)
Rose and I felt welcomed at church on Sunday and grateful for the card sent to us during my vacation. Thank you to all who helped make Sunday services work well in my absence.
It may be hot and sticky, I pray that we enjoy the weather as it will not always be like this.
"Be strong, do not fear!" The Lord is your ever present help and strength.
May you have the persistence of the Syrophoenician woman and the surprise of the deaf and dump man in the challenges you face this week.
Through Christ who never gives up on us and surprises us in ways we least imagine.

The treasurer, Bob Kay, gave a half year financial report and funds given to projects as discussed and agreed at the annual meeting in January. Thank you to all who give so generously each month. Pray that St. James Parish be faithful in prophetic ministry and trust God to supply in ways least imagined.

There will be supply clergy on July 29, August 5, 19 and 26. There is a combined service with Hope Haitian Choir, on August 12. Contact Sally Carpenter if you can help with food for the combined service.
I have attached Sunday lessons for this week for your reading and meditations.

What is the greatest surprise in your life that you never imagined? (2nd lesson)
"Do not be afraid," what are you currently afraid of and what encouragement can you draw from these stories? (gospel)
Lord, we live in times when needs are more than supply. Help us offer whatever you have given us knowing you can use it to bless many in ways we never imagined.

We live in a culture that is work and activity driven, how do you "come away and rest" ? (gospel)
Lord, help us know that unless we allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead us, we cannot shepherd others on his behalf.
The God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant; Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday, 7th Pentecost, Mark Wright was our preacher. Thank you Mark.
We gave thanks to God for the anniversary for Mark and Linda Wright, and birthdays for Rob Soboslai and Colleen Hartigan, 13th.
We were delighted to have Pauline and Dick join us as they often do in summer.
Janet Gray funeral will be on Thursday at the NH State Veterans Cemetery and a celebration of her life will be held at Taylor Home and will let you know the date and time. Non-residents are welcome to attend.
I have attached Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What helped Amos stand up to Amaziah's opposition and how can this help you?
What is your response to what God has done for us from the foundation of the world?
What is God calling you to stand against that is "unlawful" in our community, nation, world and what makes it difficult?
Lord, in a culture where it is easier to be religious, help us live as your adopted daughters and sons pointing others to the saving grace in Christ.
Through the Triune God, Father who loved us, Son who saved us and the Holy Spirit who sustains us from the foundation of the world.

Good Morning St. James Family,
On Sunday, 6 Pentecost, we looked at the benefits of waiting on God. Often when we think we have come to a dead end, a high way opens up.
Carrie's quote in the bulletin, sums it well, "Expect the unexpected, Believe the unbelievable, Achieve the unachievable." How about that as a mantra to daily challenges?
We gave thanks to God for Marcia and Jim's anniversary, 1st. May the Lord continue to use them to bless others for his glory.
Thank you to all who visit, call,and/or send cards to our parishioners in homes. Pray that they will get visitors for July 4.
Lunch Bunch will be on July 20, at Church Landing, Meredith at noon.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. I pray, every week, you take time to read the lessons and hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to you in your situation.
How are you responding to people who need you to be their "shepherd" and what qualifies you for that role?
"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness," How is this working out in your current circumstances?
"No bread, no bag, no money, no second pair sandals or tunic." Why did Jesus give this instruction to the disciples and how did you manage when you were denied them?
Or
How has having more of these affected your dependence on God to supply your daily needs?
We may need a pianist on Sunday. Pray!
Lord, open our eyes in difficult situations that help us realize "whenever I am weak, then I am strong."
Through Christ who showed us how to be strong even when everything seems against us, because he is our strength.
Peace and grace in the risen Lord.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday, 5 Pentecost, we prayed for immigrants on our southern border. Continue to pray that the President, Congress and security officials will find humane ways of handling the situation and solutions to causes that make them leave their countries in large numbers.
We also gave thanks to God for the anniversary for John and Nancy Boschetti, 25th. May God grant them strength and good health to support each other.
Thanks to RJ for his help in projecting the order of service and not panicking when there was a glitch
Margaret Duren, Kathleen White's aunt died last week. Pray for Kathy and family as they do what needs to be done. May she rest in peace.
Jeannette Salome, Bob's mother, died yesterday and the funeral service will be on Saturday, June 30 in Millville, MA. May she rest in peace.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. Other than the questions below, explore themes that run through the lessons and how that applies to your life.
What does the story in the first lesson teach us on how to handle the misfortune of someone we disagreed with in life?
What can we learn from the second lesson on acts of generosity?
"Do not fear, only believe." What does this mean for you at this stage in your life? (gospel lesson)
"For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich."
Lord, help us be generous with what you have given us, but above all in telling others your great act of salvation without fear or prejudice.
Through Christ who became poor that we may become rich, died so that we may live.

Good morning St. James family,
On the fourth Pentecost Sunday, Jim Presher preached on the parable of the mustard seed. It is not the size of the seed but the power that God has put in it that gives us hope. Thanks Jim.
We gave thanks to God for the anniversary for Bob and Karin, 22nd, and birthday for Jennifer Pearson, 21st. May the seed that God has planted in your lives grow and bear fruit that honors him and blesses others.
Last week I visited Priscilla, in Bristol. She is settling in well and sends her regards. A card or visit will be greatly appreciated.
The Vestry met last night and spent sometime doing an exercise on active listening, shared stories on how parishioners are grieving the loss of what used to be. There are no easy answers and the Vestry is working on ways we can hear each other, pray as a group and be open to what God is doing. I believe God has a David, in our congregation, to give us a different perspective to the Goliath that threatens us.
The second quarter financial report will be given on July 22. Thank you to all who give sacrificially.
I have attached Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. Use these lessons as a mirror on your life, this week.
Who is your Goliath and what lessons can you draw from the first lesson?
Last Sunday we read, "If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation," what does the second lesson teach us about living as a new creation?
Life is about change, what lessons can we learn from the gospel story?
Lord, when our lives are threatened by a Goliath, help us look up and trust you to win the battle for us.
Through Christ Jesus, who came to defeat sin, death and the devil.
We are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us.

Good morning St. James family,
On Sunday, Pentecost 3 we asked the question, "What if you are wrong?" Might it not be possible that we still interpret bible stories with a Sunday School mind or cherry pick what we like and passover what we do not like or threatens what we were brought up to believe?
We welcomed Jerry and Rita who joined us for worship and have moved into Laconia. We also gave thanks to God for David and Sharon's 50th anniversary, 15th.
At the convocation meeting last Tuesdays, parishes shared things that need to happen but are not. Most parishes are moving from being too confident of themselves and their resources to trusting God for the unknown to them but known to Him.
The parking area at church is being resealed on Wednesday and Friday, therefore no parking.
The Lunch Bunch meet at the Canoe, Center Harbor.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. These stories are not about them then but us now. Use them as a mirror on your life and not a finger to point to other people's wrongs.
"How long will you grieve over.........? Who and what are you grieving over and what lessons can you draw from this story?
"Do not look on appearance," How has appearance distorted your view of people and situations? (1st lesson)
"So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation," this is a process and not an event, how is it working out in your life? (2nd lesson)
What has God planted in you and is growing and helping other people in ways you never imagined? (gospel)
Jim Presher will preach on Sunday, pray for him.
Lord, in a culture where people and issues are judged from appearances, help us know that you loved the world as it is and gave it the best gift ever, your Son.
Help us step out in faith, like Samuel, live as a new creation and grow into a shrub that gives shelter to the weak and frightened.
May the presence of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, remind us, we are work in progress.

Good morning St. James family,
On Trinity Sunday, we read the Athanasian Creed and were reminded of how difficult it is for the mortal to explain the immortal. The Hebrews gave names to God as they experience him in everyday life.
We also gave thanks to God for men and women who gave their lives for our nation and for the birthdays for Ginny Hammond and Fran Crawford, 27th,; Albert Akerstrom, (30th) and annversaries for Bill and Ginny Hammond, 30th; and Mike and Colleen Hartigan, 6/1. May the Lord be your strength and comforter in your daily challenges.
In June and July we will be using Rite One order of service.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. Read the passages several times, meditate on an idea, phrase or image that applies to you today and listen to what the Lord may be saying to you.
Most of us are afraid that our grand and great grandchildren will grow in a godless society, what lessons can we learn from 1 Samuel 3?
What gave Paul hope in the face of "death and darkness," in life? (2nd lesson)
We live in a culture that interprets the bible and constitution to benefit some and deny others their rights, how is that position different from the Pharisees of Jesus day?
Priscila, Tracy's mother has moved to Fox Meadows, Bristol, route 104. Please drop in to see here if you can or are in the area. She would like to keep in touch with the church family.
Lord, open our eyes that are growing dim because we live in a culture that uses your word to benefit some and deny others their God given rights.
Through Christ who gave up all to bring wholeness to those society overlooks.
Peace and grace in Christ who loved us and gave up his rights so that we may be made whole.

Good morning St. James family,
We celebrated Pentecost with all shades of red attire, remembered students killed in Santa Fe, CA. Like prophets of old we ask, "LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? Ps.94:3
O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save? Habakkuk 1:2.
How many more people will have to die by gun violence before we can speak with one voice as a nation?
Skip is home and recovering. Pray for him and Carol.
Bob Dassatti seems to be doing well. Pray for him and Tracy.
Priscila has moved to a home. More details later. Pray that she will settle well and make friends with other residents.
The vestry met last night and are still waiting for more information on 4 day campers and 2 residential campers as promised by Woodlands Heights School. We are also aware of grieving signs from people saddened by the ending of activities that used to have many volunteers. We pray, as a parish, to have the grace to let go and open ourselves to where the Holy Spirit may lead us and raise new leaders.
Sowers and reapers need help on Friday from 9 am to noon to plant summer annuals and mulch the church garden. Contact Ginger for more information. Thank you for your labor of love.
I have attached Sunday Lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
What is the good and bad news in this portion of scripture? (1st lesson)
What privileges do you have as an adopted child of God? (2nd lesson)
Jesus came to save and not condemn the world, what does this mean for you to follow his example in your family, community and nation?
Lord, in creation, redemption and mission, you gave yourself to us so that we may give ourselves to others for the extension of your kingdom. May we never tire from doing what is right no matter the cost.
Through Christ who gave up his rights so that we may be adopted as your children and call you, "Abba! Father!"

On the seventh Sunday of Easter Mark Wright was our preacher and we gave thanks to God for people who mother others in our community as the women in the bible did. Father Croes and Owen Marks with the help of Jim Presher gave carnations to the women after communion, as our appreciation.
We also gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Matt Brunelle, 15th, Warren Mitchell, John Boschetti, 17th and Mark Wright, 19th. May God who has brought you this far, continue to use you as a blessing to others.
I have attached an article on the history of mothering Sunday for your reading.

Sowers and Reapers need people to help plant summer annuals and mulch the church garden on Friday, May 25, 9am to noon. Contact Ginger if you are able to help.
On Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, please wear red or a bright colors if you can.
I have attached the lessons for the week for your reading and meditations.
"Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are cut off completely," when did you feel this way and what gave you hope? (1st lesson)
What gave Peter the courage to speak so boldly to people who could have accused him of complicity in denying and betraying Jesus?
Where has the Holy Spirit used you to "testify, guide, speak and glorify Jesus," and what happened?
Lord, every family and congregation, including the St. James family, speaks different languages on various issues, may the Holy Spirit, our Advocate, hold us together and use us to glorify our risen Lord.
Peace and grace in the risen Lord.

On the sixth Sunday of Easter we renewed our baptismal vows after asking, "what is your gospel and how is it transforming you and the people you serve?"
We also gave thanks for the birthdays for Nancy Boschetti, 6th, Lisa Marks, 11th. Life is a precious gift, cherish it.
Pray for Skip Johnson who had an angina attach recently and is in CMC. Thank you to all who are able to visit, call and or send a card to Carol.
Plans for a yard sale on May 19th cancelled.
There is a Vestry workshop at St. Andrew's, New London, on Saturday, May 12.
Mark Wright is our preacher on Sunday.
Jim Presher has an anthem for Pentecost Sunday, May 20. Please contact him if you are available and would like to part of the singing group.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations for the week.
We recently commissioned leaders in our church, what qualifies you to be a leader?
"God gave us eternal life, and that life is in his Son," what is your response to that and why?
In creation and salvation of humankind God invested in others, how are you investing in others as his commissioner?
Lord, you commissioned men and women who denied and deserted you to take the gospel to the whole world, and you call us to do the same in our times.
Help us do it in Jesus name and for your glory.
May you know peace and grace in all you do for the kingdom this week.

Good morning St. James family,
On the fifth Sunday of Easter we commissioned people involved in various ministries in the St. James family after looking at what it means to be a missioner in the Acts and 1 John lessons.
Next Sunday we renew our baptismal vows after looking what the lessons mean in a culture that interprets the bible and constitution as truth that benefits some and disadvantages others.
We also gave thanks to God for Bob Graham's birthday, 1st. May you have good health, strength and know God's presence when times are hard.
Pray for healing and patience for Mark Wright and Bob Dassatti.
The Convocations meeting tonight is at St. Andrew's in the Valley, Tamworth. Pray for our delegates and Bishop Robert, the main speaker.
Thank you to all who were able to help clean up the garden and the office last Saturday.
I have attached the Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations for the week. Whatever the Holy Spirit brings to your mind from the lessons, ruminate on it for the week and do not be afraid of challenges this may make in your life. The gospel is life changing.
Where have you seen the Holy Spirit at work, where you least expected and why?
If everyone is God's child by "creation and salvation," through Christ, how does this affect your attitude to all people as a missioner?
What does it mean "to lay down one's life for one's friends," and how has Jesus and Peter set us an example to follow?
Lord, use these lessons to break down human made boundaries that divide people, made in your image and saved in Christ, into "us" who have a right, and "them," who have no right to claim what is not theirs.
Through Christ who loved, died and rose again, chosen and commissioned us to be his missioners in our community.

On the fourth Sunday of Easter, RJ was in charge of the order of service and did well. Thanks RJ.
During coffee, Lorna shared her experience of Holy Week and Easter at the National Cathedral, Washington, DC.
We gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Sharon Dunham, 22nd; David Evans, 23rd; Kathleen Gray and Linda Wright, 28th. May the presence of the Lord in your lives be your strength.
The Vestry met last night and agreed to allocate the one time payout, estimated at around $3,000, from the Trustees of the Protestant Church of New Hampshire to mission projects that were agreed at the annual meeting. Half of the mission project budget, estimated at around $8,000, will be given to Heifer International, Netsfor Life, Belknap House, LoveInc, Friendly Kitchen, 4 day (Monday thru Friday) camp scholarship at Opechee and Prescott Farm and 2 residential scholarships for a week. The second half of the budget will be dispersed at a later date.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
Who is the Ethiopian in your family and community that the Lord may be saying "go over to......) and what makes you want to or not want to go?
What is your greatest fear at this stage in your life and how may the second lesson help you handle it?
What is God "cutting, pruning and cleaning" in your life so that you may bear more fruitful?
The date for St. James preparing and serving at HATT has been changed from May 2 to May 23. If you need more details, ask Sheila.
GSLC/SJEP Sowers and Reapers Garden Clean-up: Last Saturday’s garden cleanup at the church was cancelled due to cold temperatures. This Sat promises to be warmer. We will clean up the gardens a bit, broadcast dry fertilizer, and plant some pansies. Can you help out? Sat, April 28, 2018 9:00-11:00am. Contact Ginger for more details.
On Sunday we will be commissioning the following, Wardens and Vestry, Delegates to the Convocation and Convention, Home visitors and Mission Projects,Lessons and Prayer Readers, Altar Guild, Music and Order of Service, Church Office Volunteers, Acolytes, Lay Licensed Officers and Ushers/Greeters/Counters. Let me know if there is a ministry done through St. James that I have left out.
Lord, teach us when to let go and allow you to continue your work with the least expected person. It is your work and not ours to control.

Through Christ who chose and appointed us to go and bear fruit that will last.

Good morning St. James family,
The Sunday servuce was attebded by 19 people in spite the bad weather. Please stay at home if you do not feel safe to travel, even if you are on duty.
The Pastoral Care meeting on Saturday was attended by 12 people. Contact Karen V if you need a copy of what was discussed and would like to be part of the pastoral care team.
The Vestry meeting for last night was cancelled and will be on Monday, next week.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your study and meditations for the week.
What lessons can we draw from the first lesson on the work we do in the community?
What is truth and how does that affect our actions? (2nd lesson)
Who is God calling you to "lay down your life for," and where do you draw the strength to do that? (gospel)
On Sunday, April 29, we will be commissioning various ministries done by elected, licensed, appointed or volunteers. I thank God for the tapestry of gifts and skills in the ministry of St. James. What we are and we do is because of who you are and do.
Lord, remind us this week that whatever we do in Jesus name points people to your unlimited resources, and whatever we do in our name points them to our limited resources.
Keep warm and safe, the I AM is your shepherd through all the changing scenes of life.
Grace and peace to you in Christ.

Good morning St. James family,
On the second Sunday of Easter, Jim Presher was our preacher. He talked about Jesus the light of the world and how we are called to be light in a world of darkness. Thank you Jim. We also gave thanks to God for the birthday of Janet Gray. Thank you Dot for visting her regularly.
On Saturday we have a pastoral companioning training starting at 10 am at church and should be over before 11.30 am. 11 people signed up on Sunday and if you were not present and would like to join us, please let me know as I need to send out a reading that will be the bases of our discussion and will help me make enough books. Our community has more people needing or giving care, how can we be a companion on the last part of life's journey?
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
If you were part of the people that listened to Peter's address, how would you have reacted and why?
As a baptized child of God, how do you keep yourself free from sin and how may the Sunday service confession be helping you?
What is your current greatest fear and how may this story help you?
I have attached the message from the Sowers & Reapers Gardening Group for a meeting on April 21from 9-11am
The Vestry meeting is on Monday, April 19 at 6 pm.
The resurrection of Jesus reminds us that "we are God's children," now and "will be like him," in the after life.
May Christ who lives in us and is with us in all situations be our hope of better things to come.
Grace and peace in the risen Lord.

First Planning & Work Meeting of Sowers & Reapers Gardening Group
On Saturday, April 21, 2018, 9:00am-11:00 am , the new Sowers & Reapers Garden
Group will hold a first-of-the-season planning and work session. After a
brief meeting to organize for the season, the group will rake out the garden
beds, cut back the few perennials left standing from last season, scratch in
dry fertilizer, and plant spring pansies.
Leaders Ginger Wells-Kay and Ed Higgins figure that with six (6) volunteer
gardeners from GSLC and four (4) from SJEC, each gardener will need to
make only 2 - 3 visits to weed and occasionally water over the 28 week
season. Sowers and Reapers will plant summer annuals and mulch the beds
during the May Church Cleanup Saturday; they will also put the gardens to
bed for the season on the first Saturday after Halloween. A garden ledger
will be kept this year; each gardener will jot down the date, tasks
completed, and any garden observations. In that way, the various gardeners
will be able to communicate with each other and know what's been happening
in the garden prior to their visit.
Please let Ginger Wells-Kay , Pastor Tobias, or Pastor Jenn know if you wish
to take part in the Sowers and Reapers. There is also a sign-up sheet in the
gathering room where the white board calendars are hung. Please join us if
you want to keep beautiful and useful our little piece of God's green earth
around The Church on the Hill - for both us and His pollinators, insects,
birds, and amphibians!

Good morning St. James family,
We celebrated Easter with the choir singing an anthem. Thank you to Jim, Janet, Andrea, Sheila, Katie, Jack, Warren,Carrie and RJ. Thank you to Owen who helped with the lighting and carrying the Pascal Candle. Lisa has run for 19 years in support of the Dana-Farber treatment for cancer. Support her fundraising for the Boston Marathon on April 16, Patriots day in Massachusetts. What a patriot to many who are affected by cancer.
We also gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Kathy White (1st), Arthur Johnson (4th), Bill Hammond and Bob Dassatti (5th), Marcia Presher (6th).
Please pray for baby Etta DHMC, Owen and Bob Dassatti who went to Boston, on Monday, for change of treatment and many in our parish who need healing.
Thank you to all who helped on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter.
The Mission Team meets on Thursday noon. Bring own lunch. Desert will be provided.
On Saturday, April 14, at 10 am, Karen, Linda and I will be meeting with people who do pastoral visits in the parish. If you are caring for a family member or anticipate doing that in future this is for you. If you are concerned for people in Belknap, Genesis, St. Francis and Taylor Homes, this is for you. If you would like to know what it takes to befriend someone who is house bound or dying, this is for you. Karen will have a sign up sheet on Sunday.
I have attached lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
St. James identifies herself as a family and not a building with an address, what lessons can we learn from the early church on being of "one heart and soul?"
In the Apostles Creed we say, "I believe in the forgiveness of sins," if you do, how does the second lesson confirm this?
In the Nicene Creed we say, "he (Jesus) was crucified....suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again," what did he do to convince the disciples that he had risen from the dead and was alive?
Jim Presher will be preaching on Sunday. Thanks Jim. I can clean up the garden and put my feet up on Thursday without the usual Sunday service pressure.
Lord, thank you that you trusted Peter who denied you, Thomas who doubted you, the other disciples and women who seemed not to get it to take the good news to the world.
Through Christ who loves us in spite our imperfections.

A blessed Palm Sunday, St. James family,
I am away on Tuesday for the Holy Week Clergy day.
Thank you to all who took part in reading of the lessons, the prayer and the Passion.
Holy Week services are as follows:
Maundy Thursday, Noon and 7 pm
Good Friday, Noon and 7 pm
Unless we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Lessons we miss the joy of celebrating Easter and its implications on our everyday life.
I have attached the lessons for Easter for your reading and meditations of the week.
How often have you thought, "who, where, how and what will......" at this stage of your life?
What gives you hope?
Luke and Kaitlyn Salome are temporarily staying in Laconia, at 40 Audrey Lane, as baby Etta is still in DHMC. Cards and good wishes would be greatly appreciated.
There is enough interest for a group to sing an anthem on Easter day. Please contact Jim Presher if you need more details.
May we hold firmly to the lessons learned in Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the hope of Easter.
Through Christ who gave up all so that we may have all.

Name other gods that are replacing God in our lives today?
If Jesus suffered, died, was buried and rose again from the dead, how does this help you with dying and death questions you may have?
Who helped you know God and what difference is that making in your life?
Lord, help us this Lent know and experience what it means, " I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more."
Grace and peace in Christ who learned obedience through what he suffered and is able to help those who are tempted by sin.

Good morning St. James family,
On the third Sunday in Lent we considered how God included humanity in creation, salvation and the great commission in spite the temptation to exclude herself.
We gave thanks to God for Andre Garcia's bithday, (8). In place of the Prayers of the People, we used "A Litany for Gun Violence Prevention, written by the Rt. Rev.Stephen T. Lane, the Episcopal Bishop of Maine.
Pray for our delegates and the Convocation meeting tonight at All Saints Episcopal Church, Wolfeboro.
The Lenten series speaker tomorrow is the Rev.Jason Wells, the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Council of Churches. Soup and bread at 6 pm.

What are your life complaints this week and what may the Lord be saying to you from these lessons?
What are you grateful to God for this week and how do the lessons encourage you?
Where and how may you show God's love for the world this week and how do these lessons help you?
Lord, you showed mercy to the ungrateful Hebrews in the desert, grace to the Ephesians, dead in their sins, and loved a rebellious world by giving your only Son. Help us remember that you have not changed and to accept your mercy, grace and love as free gifts for anyone who needs them today.
Through the Christ, who by grace, saves the world.

Good morning St. James family,
We celebrated the second Sunday in Lent with 23 people who braved the weather and stayed for the coffee hour. Whenever the weather is dicey, do what is right and safe, even if you are on duty.
On the first Sunday in Lent, Bp Rob challenged us on why we need to incline our hearts towards God than the world, last Sunday we looked at illusions. If you think of a tendency, from this week's lessons, that stop us from inclining our hearts towards God, this Lent, let me know by Thursday. I pray these words will add meaning and purpose to Easter celebration.
Ginger managed to bring Nancy, her sister home. Pray for all that is needed. Bernice was in church and grateful for the cards, calls and visits from the St. James family.
For your calendar:
Wednesday, February 28: Combined Lent program, dinner at 6 pm and the speaker is Captain Scott and Nora McNeil of the Salvation Army. The soup and bread, fellowship and talks last Wednesday were inspiring.
Saturday, March 3: Meeting Jesus: A Lenten Quiet Day for Lay Leaders with Bishop Robert at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Hopkinton.
Tuesday, March 6: Convocation meeting at All Saints, Wolfeboro, for our Parish delegates.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations for the week.
How is the reading of the law, at the beginning of the service, helping you incline your heart towards God?
Church attendance and mission are on the decline, how does the second lesson encourage you, this Lent?
You are God's temple, what may the Holy Spirit be asking you to "take out and throw away" this Lent?
Lord, help us see your image and likeness in people affected by gun violence, natural disasters, war, human selfishness and empower us to play our part in making the world better for all.
Through Christ who fulfilled the law, the living temple and our hope.

Good morning St. James family,
On the first Sunday in Lent, Bishop Robert Hirschfeld preached, reaffirmed Lisa, Andre and Carol who desired to reaffirm their baptismal vows and celebrated.
Garry Brunelle updated the parishioners, during coffee hour, on the recent visit to the Dominican Republic. He will show slides when they are ready. The congregation also asked Bishop Rob some questions durinng the coffee hour before he left to preach at the 10.30 GSLC service.
Bishop Robert also attended the Vestry meeting last night and led the discussion on "at a glance", statistics on St. James, Laconia from 2008 to 2016. The average Sunday attendance has stabilized after many years of decline, while household pledges, income and invested funds are on the increase. Feel free to ask Vestry members for a copy.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 21, our combined Lent program speaker is Jude Hamel, Executive Director, Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center, Laconia, NH. Starts at 6 with bread and soup. Invite family and friends.
St. James is also serving dinner at HATT at St. Andre Bassette on Wednesday.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
When you were baptized, you got a new name "child of God," what does the story of Abraham and Sarah teach you about what God can do for you?
What have you given up on that would make you chuckle if God promised to fulfill it during your lifetime?
When were you ashamed for being a Christian, what helped you "hang in there"?
I recommend that you consider attending the Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate talk on February 24 at the Gilford Community Church at 10 am. Pray for the 17 students and teachers, their families affected by gun violence in Parkland, Florida, and other parts of the country. Pray that the national march on Washington, in March, will touch the conscience of the nation.
Please consider attending Meeting Jesus: A Lenten Quiet Day for Lay Leaders with Bishop Robert, on March 3, 2018. Register at nhepiscopal.org.
Lord, may the lessons for this week remind us that life comes out of death. May hardships, sickness, dying and death remind us of the resurrection.
Grace and peace in Christ, our risen Lord.

Good morning St. James family,
On the last Sunday after the Epiphany, Warren stood by the door to assist people walk on the icy parking area. Thank you Warren for your helping hand.

Life's experiences in the lessons are described as "a flood to destroy, a prison, and wilderness," what can you do, this Lent, to break their power?
The women and girls who are exposing sexual abuse by powerful men, have been living in prison or wilderness, what can society do to stop the culture of abusing the weak by the powerful?

Good morning St. James family,
I wish I could say something different about the weather. It is what it is this time of the year. I pray that in spite of it, we are what we should be in Epiphany, present, hearing and bringing God inspired insights into our church and culture. Epiphany is counter culture.
Thank you to Forence Rivers and Dorothy Faulkner for the cards sent recently and read during the coffee hour. We miss but wish you well in 2018
On the fifth Sunday after the Epiphany we gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Ben Pearson, Harrison Evans and Jack Schaffnit (1st), James Presher (5th) and Brooke Flathers (7th). Bill Baxter fell and thinks he may have a couple of broken ribs but feels fine for a 96 year old. Bernice Vincent is home after surgery, trying to slow down and grateful to all who visited, called or sent a card.
Lent program for your calendar:
February 21 Jude Hamel, Exec. Dir. Prescott Farm, Laconia, NH
February 28 Captain Scott and Nora McNeil, Laconia Salvation Army, NH
March 7 The Rev. Jason Wells, President, New Hampshire Council of Churches, Concord, NH
March 14 Bishop James Hazelwood, ELCA New England (Middle Eastern Dinner)
March 21 Navigating for Recovery.
In the past GSLC and SJEC brought soup and bread on alternative nights. This year, the churches are working together each evening. The sign up sheet is on the noticeboard and feel free to call Ginger for more details.
Next Sunday we celebrate the last Sunday after the Epiphany. I have listed the Epiphany lessons for the last 5 Sundays and attached the sixt one for your reading and meditations of the week.
1st Sunday: Isaiah 60:1-6 and Matthew 2:1-12
2nd Sunday: 1 Samuel 3:1-20 and John 1:43-51
3rd Sunday: Jonah 3:1-12 and Mark 1:14-20
4th Sunday: Deutteronomy 18:15-20 and Mark 1:21-28
5th Sunday: Isaiah 40:21-31 and Mark 1:29-39
6th Sunday: 2 Kings 2:1-12 and Mark 9:2-9
May I encourage you to make time to read all or some of the lessons for the six weeks of Epiphany and attempt to answer all or one of the following questions.
Is there a common theme that runs through the Epiphany lessons?
Who or what surprised you the most by the way they reacted in the Epiphany lessons and why?
What is your Ephiphany take away from this year's lessons?
Come prepared to share your findings on the last Sunday after the Epiphany. What you share may shed more light on our understanding of the scriptures and impact our living out our baptismal vows.
Four people have confirmed their desire to reaffirm their faith on Sunday, February 18 when Bishop Rob is visiting. Let me know if this is something you may want to do. Names are entered into the Parish Register at baptism, confirmation, reception, reaffirmation or by a transfer letter from your former church.
May the lessons for the Sundays after the Epiphany remove the veil that blocks our ears from hearing and stop us from saying and doing what is pleasing to God.
Jesus came to make us a "light that shines in the darkness."

Good morning St. James family,
Can you believe it? A week later it is still cold, icy and a cloudy day.
The thought of spring rain and warmth cheers me up.
We celebrated the fourth Sunday after Epiphany in the fellowship hall, where we gave each other communion and appreciation of all who made a difference in the St. James mission by living out their baptismal vows in 2017. Thank you all.
We also gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Tracy Dassatti and David Dunham (29) and updates on what is going on in the St. James family. Pray for recovery for Bernice Vincent who had surgery yesterday.
The annual meeting accepted the financial report and approved the reports from various groups. New officers we elected and good ideas shared on support for mission projects 2018. Thank you to all who worked behind the scenes, contributed in the discussions and accepted taking on responsibility.
Plans for Lent, for your calendar, details to follow:
Shrove Tuesday, February 13. Please contact Karin Salome if you can lead and organize it.
Ash Wednesday, February 14. Noon and evening service.
Lent combined evening meetings: February 21, 28. March 7, 14, 21
Palm Sunday: March 25.
Holy Week: Maundy Thursday, March 29
Good Friday, March 30
Easter Vigil....combined with Trinity, Saturday March 31
Easter: April 1 What a day to celebrate end to suffering, death and the grave that dehumanize us!
I have attached the Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. Every Sunday I share what I believe the lessons mean and apply to me. Be blessed as you read, question and apply to yourself the words that have given hope to many over generations.
What makes you feel like a grass hopper or withering plant, in life, and what gives you hope? (1st lesson)
Paul gave up his entitlements in order to proclaim and live out the gospel, what might you need to give up, as a follower of Jesus, to do the same? (2nd lesson)
Where have you experienced or seen an evil spirit at work and what did or can you do to make a difference? (gospel)
Lord, there is so much in our lives and culture that make us wither like grass, help us know that you call us by name, are our healer and hope.
May the Lord daily renew our strength and cause us to rise like an eagle, in spite our daily challenges.
Grace and peace in Christ.

Good morning St. James family, on this cold, icy and cloudy day.
On the third Sunday, we discussed the Epiphany to the people in the lessons and were amazed at the openness of the king, people of Nineveh, and the four fishermen in comparison to Jonah and the religious leaders. May the Epiphnay season give us new insights to things God is doing in and through unlikely people and places.
We also gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Margaret Mitchell (21st), Joy Dickinson and Sheila Akerstrom (23rd). God's blessings on you.
The annual meeting is on Sunday after the service in the fellowship hall. The report was emailed on Sunday, ask the office if you need a hard copy.
Bishop Robert Hirschfeld is visiting us on Sunday, February 18. More details to follow.
Combined Lent program with GSLC starts on Wednesday, February 21. More details to follow.
I have attached the Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week. Be open to new insights, willing to change and being a prophetic voice for God.
A prophet speaks on God's behalf, where and what may the Lord be asking you to speak for him in 2018? (1st lesson)
Who are the weak and how can you be mindful of them this week or who was mindful of you when you were most vulnerable? (2nd lesson)
When did you hear God say, "be silent and come (snap) out of it," and what happened? (gospel)
Lord put your words in our mouth that we may speak and do what gives life and not death, to all around us.
Through Christ who spoke and personified Gods' word in a broken world.

Good morning St. James family,
On the second Sunday after Epiphany, the congregation shared their grief at the death of Dick Gray and prayers for Carole, his wife, Karen and Patricia, his daughters, and Richard, Jr, his son. I will let you know the funeral/memorial arrangements when I get them.
We also gave thanks to God for the anniversary for Ginger Wells-Kay and Bob Kay.
The Vestry met last night and are grateful to all who gave generously. We met our mission target and had a small surplus on the parish budget for 2017.
The annual meeting is on Sunday, January 28 after the service. The agenda and reports will be mailed before and a few hard copies at the meeting.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations of the week.
Where, to who and what may the Lord be asking you to "Get up, go to" and why may that be difficult for you? (1st lesson)
How will you share and live out the good news of Jesus Christ in 2018? (gospel)
Ginger Wells-Kay and Jim Presher are teaming up with two people from Good Shepherd to plan the combined Lent Program. Let them know if you have an issue that is important to you.
May God who used the message of a reluctant Jonah to save a city and fishermen to change the world, give you courage to trust him for the impossible.
Through Christ, the good news to a broken world.

Dear St. James family,
This first Sunday after Epipjhany was celebrated with the coldest spell hanging over New Hampshire. The Sunday lessons remined us of the hope we have, in spite the threats that hang over our community, state, nation and world. May we rise and shine as the Christmas cactus, in spite the freezing temperatures outside our house. God in us makes us flourish instead of freezing in fear.
On Sunday we gave thanks to God for the birthdays for Lisa Garcia, Jeff Pearson (7th) and Bob Salome (9th). You are a gift to your families and the communities around you.
Brenda Moulton is undergoing training as an Altar Guild member. Thanks Brenda. I wonder who will be the first man to join the Guild. Sally is a good trainer!
Bill Hammond is not able to do Friendly Kitchen for sometime. Helpers needed. Expenses will be reimbursed. Please fill in the form on the notice board.
Jim Presher and Ginger Wells-Kay will join two people from GSLC to plan the Lent joint programs. Let them know issues that interest you.
The Vestry meets on Monday, January 15 at 6 pm. Thank you to all who have returned pledge forms, if not please do so by this Sunday.
The annual meeting will be on Sunday, January 28 after the service. We plan to send the reports to you a week before the meeting.
I have attached Sunday lessons for your reading and meditations for the week.
Given our fears on what is going on in our state, nation and world, how may God be speaking to you? (1st lesson)
What did Paul want the believers in Corinth know and how can this help you in 2018? (2nd lesson)
"Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Who are the men and women, in our day, that are being ignored and why? (gospel)
On Monday, the nation celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr, a man who heard, obeyed God and paid the price, at a difficult time in the history of our country.
"Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening." May the reading of scriptures, and messages from the St. James members, help us hear and obey God in 2018. Samuel, Philip, Andrew, Peter, Nathaniel and Paul did and changed history.
Through Christ who listened, obeyed and has enabled us to be members of God's family.
